Don Drummond is perhaps best known as one of the key members of the Skatalites, but he had enjoyed an illustrious career even before the Skatalites were formed in 1965, not least as a member of the Eric Deans Orchestra and the Sonny Bradshaw Band in the early 1950s, and by 1954 he was headlining his own bands, including the Don Drummond All Stars and the Don Drummond Four. This excellent collection gathers together some of the tracks Drummond recorded for Clement Dodd under his own name between 1960 and 1966. Originally compiled by Chris Wilson and Clement Dodd, the album was shelved after Dodd’s death in 2004. Most of the tracks were released as 7” singles on labels such as Sensational, Muzik City, C&N, Rolando & Powie, D Darling and Studio 1, but Rain Or Shine, Grooving With The Beat and Serenade In Sound only appeared on LP.
