HOTTER THAN HOT1
Lord Antics & the Lyons Band (1970)

Label: Antics Disc
matrix number:
DB 112

One Arm Man; Married Recipe; Island In The Sun, Sell The Pussy; Jene Marabunta; Jamaica Farewell // Big Bamboo; Split Me In Two; Yellow Bird; Sixty Nine; Jacob From Panama; Fork Up The Garden

JA issue, mono. Calypso vocal, accompanied by banjo, guitar, bass and percussion.

According to the notes on the sleeve: “Recorded at Studio 1 in Jamaica. Produced by S. Powell”.

(Note: S. Powell = St. Clair Powell, Lord Antics real name.)

Now here is a nice anomaly, two different albums with the same name by the same artist. They both share some track titles and were issued with exactly the same label (the track list is correct for one but not quite correct for the other). The sleeve illustrated above (front and back) accompanies issue number one (although there is actually no indication which came first). The most obvious difference between the two is the inclusion of banjo as accompaniment on number one, and violin on number two.

See also CALYPSOES TOO HOT TO HOLD by Lord Antics and the Merry Boys, and Michael Garnice's excellent Mento Music site for more information about Lord Antics and the LPs and singles he recorded at Studio One.
