Even though Alton Ellis had been recording hit singles for Coxsone Dodd since the early 1960s, this was his first album released for Studio One (recorded shortly after his return from the tour of the UK with the Soul Vendors). Although it includes a couple of questionable cover versions (Whiter Shade Of Pale and Massachusetts, both in a rock steady style) it also features several outstanding originals whose classic rhythms have been versioned countless times since.
